I never noticed this before, other than one neighbor who was, for a while anyway, going out into his car at night, saw him in his driveway with the interior light on in the car. Now, of course, after reading about it I'll see people doing this everywhere. And I totally get it, having that special space for "me time" is very important and not everyone has extra room in their homes.
I began to notice it when I would "almost" bump my door against the person parked next to me. Glancing furtively at the car to make sure no one was in it to witness, I would see that indeed there WAS someone there more often than not. Hence, this story. :)
Back in the mid nineties my father would tease me about treating my car like a sanctuary, which I did. He thought it so funny when he saw an ice chest for the car that plugged into the cigarette lighter, he bought it for me. He got a good laugh, and I got more hours in my car.
